It’s a fascinating time for AQA, with a new strategy in development and ambitious plans to be the UK’s pre-eminent educational assessment organisation, with a global presence.

This is a key role that will see the incumbent operate in a blended Talent Acquisition & EDI capacity.

Our new Head of Talent Acquisition, Diversity & Inclusion will lead an established team to attract a truly inclusive workforce and ensure AQA is seen internally and externally as a great place to work.

This role owns AQA’s talent acquisition and resourcing strategy, including employer branding, resource planning and future talent pipelining for internal colleagues, contractors and examiners. Our new Head of Talent Acquisition, Diversity & Inclusion will develop our all-encompassing talent acquisition strategy to include early careers programmes, with a particular focus on equality, diversity and inclusion. They’ll be a strong strategic leader who will contribute to the broader people agenda.

The role is based within our People Group and is a key member of the leadership team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of our AQA people strategy, driving continuous improvement and ensuring the right culture moving forward.
  • Engage, advise and collaborate with key stakeholders including examiners (and through the ED&I Advisory Group) to drive our ED&I strategy (facilitating discussions, defining ways of working and identifying shared development needs)
  • Creation of an end to end talent acquisition strategy drawing on insights from talent and succession frameworks ensuring strategy exists to address critical skills gaps.
  • Lead on AQA’s workforce planning strategy providing expertise and guidance to ensure a one AQA workforce planning strategy is created which will inform a future view of our skills and capability requirements.
  • Ensure an effective employment law framework, business processes, policies and ways of working that are compliant and safeguard AQA.
  • Act as a key member of the People Group leadership team promoting and modelling our culture and leadership behaviours.
  • Ensure all recruitment activities and the candidate life cycle re underpinned by our values and leadership capabilities.


Person specification:

  • An inspirational leader with experience of leading people through change across multiple sites in a complex business model.
  • Ability to translate a vision into achievable goals and provide clear direction.
  • You’ll have a deep subject matter knowledge of ED&I issues, trends and best practices.
  • Strong track record of managing, influencing and motivating others across the organisation and at board level.
  • Successful track record of developing innovative Talent Acquisition and end to end Talent Planning strategies and plans to meet organisational objectives.
  • Previous budgetary management experience.
  • Experience of overseeing multiple recruitment campaigns simultaneously.
  • Demonstrable up-to-date working knowledge of current employment legislation, policies, practices and procedures and the impact on best recruitment and induction practices.
